Humble in 2016

Thank you for coming to visit! I have to admit, I don't write much on this page. My "regular" blog is http://tammysincerity.BlogSpot.com

I also post once a month over at http://BraveGirlCommunity.com

Still, I wanted to take a little bit of time here to share.
Last night I was reading Psalm 25. God was highlighting some words for me and the word humble was in the middle of the passage. That was no accident.

Remember, O Lord, your compassion and unfailing love,
which you have shown from long ages past.
Do not remember the rebellious sins of my youth.
Remember me in the light of your unfailing love,
for you are merciful, O Lord.

The Lord is good and does what is right;
he shows the proper path to those who go astray.
He leads the humble in doing right,
    teaching them his way.
10 The Lord leads with unfailing love and faithfulness
all who keep his covenant and obey his demands. (Psalm 25:6-10 NLT)

I don't know if you ever read Charlotte's Web by E.B. White or if you saw the film. Either version retained the spider's words in the web that described Wilbur the Pig.
What I recall, though, is that one of them was Humble.
Humility is not a popular trait. It seems to be a behind-the-scenes, shy type of virtue. As I study it, though, a great deal of strength and character is required for consistent humility. You have to be sure enough of your value and worth to not need the credit or the glory for things you are responsible for.

For God to be glorified, we must be humble enough to not desire any of that glory for ourselves.
We never want to be Elisha's servant. He went after the men with the reward and lied, saying his master did indeed want some of the gifts. Then he lied again to cover his deeds. He was punished with the same condition (leprosy) of the man who had been healed.

We wrestle against pride. This is why, I believe, it says in Ephesians 6 that we wrestle not against flesh and blood. It's deeper. It's in our minds and in the spiritual realm. Satan wants us to have ANYONE or ANYTHING on the throne except for the Lord GOD Almighty. He has no preference if it's us, a celebrity, a possession, a "goal" we're striving for, or even all the "good works" we're hoping to accomplish.

Journeying toward a place of humility comes with a lot of breaking, but the result will be glorious.
